Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 24, 2026 • Last Updated: September 24, 2026
1. Introduction & Core Commitment
FamOrbit ("we", "us", "our") is dedicated to protecting the privacy and digital wellbeing of families. FamOrbit is developed as part of the BuyWiseHub network (famorbit.buywisehub.in). This Privacy Policy explains how our parental control software collects, utilizes, and protects information when you install and use the FamOrbit Android application and related cloud services.
2. Coordinated Use of Android AccessibilityService API & System Alert Window (Overlay)
FamOrbit is a dedicated parental control and family digital wellbeing solution. To enforce parental screen-time quotas and bedtime schedules, FamOrbit uses the Android AccessibilityService API (android.permission.BIND_ACCESSIBILITY_SERVICE) in tandem with the System Alert Window permission (android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW, also known as "Display over other apps"), with explicit, supervised consent from the parent or legal guardian.
- Foreground App Detection (AccessibilityService API): The Accessibility Service observes window-state change events exclusively to detect when a specific, parent-restricted or time-budgeted application is launched in the foreground on the child's device.
- Lock Screen Enforcement (System Alert Window / Overlay): Once the child's configured daily time limit is reached, a scheduled bedtime routine begins, or a parent triggers an instant remote pause, FamOrbit uses the System Alert Window permission to display a full-screen, polite blocker overlay ("Time's Up" / "Bedtime Mode") directly over the restricted application, preventing further usage until authorized by the parent.
- Tamper & Bypass Prevention: Accessibility events also detect when Android System Settings or App Management is opened on the child device, displaying a secure PIN verification overlay to prevent children from force-stopping or uninstalling protection without parental authorization.
- Zero Keystroke / Password Logging: FamOrbit does NOT record, monitor, capture, or log keystrokes, passwords, PINs, or keyboard inputs.
- Zero Content Scraping: FamOrbit does NOT read, inspect, intercept, or record private text messages, social media chats, emails, photos, videos, or web browsing text.
- No Financial / Sensitive Data Access: FamOrbit does NOT access banking credentials, credit card details, or health data.
- Local & In-Memory Evaluation: Foreground app detection events are evaluated in-memory on the local device solely to compare against parental time quotas. No personal screen content is ever saved to disk or transmitted to remote servers.
- Anti-Tapjacking & Fair UI: The overlay screen is strictly transparent about its parental control purpose, does not obscure system emergency dialogues, and does not hijack or manipulate touches for third-party apps.
- Prominent In-App Disclosure: During the child device setup, FamOrbit presents a clear, full-screen prominent disclosure explaining exactly why Accessibility and Overlay permissions are required before redirecting the parent to Android system settings.
- Revocable at Any Time: Parents or device owners can revoke both permissions at any time via Android Settings:
• Accessibility: Android Settings > Accessibility > Installed Apps > FamOrbit > Turn Off.
• Overlay: Android Settings > Apps > Special App Access > Display over other apps > FamOrbit > Deny.
Background Location Access (ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION)
FamOrbit collects and accesses location data (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION, and ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION) to enable real-time child location tracking, route history, and arrival/departure geofence notifications for parents, even when the application is closed or not in active use.
• Why Background Location Is Essential: For a parental safety application, geofence safety alerts (e.g., notifying parents when a child safely arrives at school or leaves home) must function continuously in the background without requiring the child to keep the app open on their screen.
• Strict Parental Consent: Background location is never enabled silently. A prominent in-app disclosure is displayed on the child's device during supervised onboarding, requiring explicit parental confirmation.
• Zero Third-Party Sharing: Location coordinates are encrypted in transit and at rest, accessible strictly by authenticated parent accounts. FamOrbit never sells, monetizes, or shares location coordinates with advertisers or data brokers.
• User Revocation: Parents can disable location tracking at any time from the FamOrbit Parent Dashboard or via Android Settings > Apps > FamOrbit > Permissions > Location.
Camera & Usage Stats Permissions
- Camera (
android.permission.CAMERA): Used solely to scan secure QR codes for instant device pairing between parent and child phones. The camera is never used for background surveillance, recording, photo storage, or video transmission. - Usage Stats (
android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS): Enables FamOrbit to accurately measure daily screen time per application and enforce daily time quotas configured by parents. Usage statistics are never shared with external parties.
3. Device Administrator Permission (Tamper Protection)
FamOrbit requests the Android Device Administrator (BIND_DEVICE_ADMIN) permission on the child device.
Purpose: This permission is used exclusively for tamper prevention to stop unauthorized uninstallation or force-closing of the protection service by children without entering the parent's secret 4-digit PIN. The parent can easily deactivate this permission anytime within the app using their Parent PIN.
4. Information We Collect & How It Is Used
| Data Type | Purpose | Storage & Sharing |
|---|---|---|
| Family ID & Pairing Codes | To link parent and child devices anonymously without requiring child phone numbers. | Encrypted cloud database. Never shared. |
| Installed App Package Names | To show the parent an app list for configuring specific daily time limits (e.g. YouTube, Roblox). | Transferred via TLS to parent device. Never shared. |
| App Usage & Screen Time Activity (UsageStats) | Collected via Android's UsageStatsManager (package name, foreground minutes, and last-used timestamp) solely to enforce parental daily time quotas, schedule bedtime lockouts, and provide parents with activity summary reports. |
Encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Accessible only by authenticated parent account. Never shared or sold. |
| Network & Device Data Usage (MB/GB) | Monitors aggregate mobile data and Wi-Fi volume (megabytes/gigabytes consumed per app) to assist parents in managing family cellular bandwidth and identifying high-consumption apps. | Processed for parental dashboard analytics only. Never shared with third parties or advertisers. |
| Push Tokens (FCM) | To deliver instant approvals for extra time requests and SOS emergency alerts. | Google Firebase Cloud Messaging. |
5. COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
FamOrbit is designed for parents to supervise minor children. We do not knowingly collect personal contact information (such as email address, telephone number, or physical location) directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Child pairing is performed via random anonymous 6-digit codes initiated by the parent.
6. Data Retention & Your Right to Delete Data
You have complete control over your family's data. You may delete your account and erase all associated cloud data at any time through:
- In-App One-Tap Deletion: Open FamOrbit on the Parent Device → Settings → Tap "Delete Family Account & Cloud Data". All profile records, rules, and pairing logs are permanently wiped from the server instantly.
- Online Deletion Request: Visit our dedicated Account Deletion Page or email contact@buywisehub.in.
